INVITING SOMEONE
Study the following expressions:
 If you want to invite someone :
    - Would you like to come to ...?
    - Come to my .... please!
    - I'd like you to come to ....
    - I'd be glad if you can come to ...
    - I want to invite you to come/ join ...
 Responds:
   Positive answers:                          Negative answers:
    - yes, I would                              I'm sorry I can't
    - yes, I will                                  Thank you, but ...
    - yes, I'd like to                           I'd like to, but ...
    - Thank you                               
    - yes, of course
    - yes, sure
    - yes, certainly
Example:
X : Hello Y, this is X.
Y : Hi X, how is your life?
X : Fine. And you?
Y : Fine too. By the way, what's up?
X : Well, I want to celebrate my birthday tomorrow evening. And I'd like you to come, okay!
Y ; Really?
X : Yes, I'm serious.
Y : Yeah, I'd like to.
X : Thank you Y, see you tomorrow.
Y : See you.

Okay students! Now it's time for you to practise it. Suppose you want to celebrate your birthday and invite your friends to attend your party.

HOMEWORK

Practise a dialogue with your friend based on the following situation.
Situation: You tell your friend how to do/ make something, but while your friend speaking, please interupt him/ her like asking to repeat his/ her words, showing your attention while he/ she is speaking, and the last showing your admiration.
Example:
A : Hi, what are U doing?
B : Hi, I'm reading a book.
A : What kind of book is that?
B : Oh, it is a recipe book.
A : What?
B : A recipe book. I want to know how to make Strawberry Lemon Juice.
A : Really?
B : Yeah, I have prepared the materials in the kitchen. Let's make it.
A : Wow! How diligent you are!
B : Thanks.

OKAY  MY STUDENTS, NOW IS YOUR TURN TO PRACTISE IT IN FRONT OF THE CLASS!
These expressions may help U.
Expressions of asking for repetition :
     - What?
     - Could you repeat please! I can't hear you.
     - I'm sorry. what did you say?
     - Sorry, I can't hear you.
     - Pardon, I didn't catch what you said.
     - Would you be louder please?
Expressions of showing attention
     - Really?
     - Do you?/ Did you?/ Are you?/ Have you?/ Will you?
     - Oh yeah!
     - Tell me more.
     - And then.
Expressions of showing Admiration:
     - How diligent you are!
     - How lucky you are!
     - What a lucky boy you are!
     - You are very good.

LESSON 2

If you want to ask someone about his/her certainty, you may say:
- Are you sure? (Apakah kamu yakin?)
- Are you positive? (Apakah kamu yakin?)
- Are you certain that Mr.MyHope will come? (Yakin kah kamu bahwa Mr.MyHope akan datang?)
And you may respond :
- Yes, of course (Ya tentu)
- Yes, I am sure  ( Ya, saya yakin)
- Yes, I am certain
- Yes, I am positive ...
If you are not certain you may answer :
- I am not sure  ( Saya tidak yakin)
- I am not positive
- I am not certain
- I doubt it  ( Saya meragukannya)
Pay this dialogue carefully:
Mr. My Hope : My computer doesn't work well. Do you know what happened to it?
Mr. Montir      : It may be disturbed by viruses.
Mr. My Hope : Are you positive? But last night, it worked well.
Mr. Montir     : I am not certain. But let's check it to ensure.

PENDIDIKAN BERKARAKTER

"Nasionalisme dan karakter bangsa Indonesia mengalami kemerosotan".(Media Indonesia, 10 Agustus 2010, hal.10)Wah wah. gimana jadinya bangsa kita kalau seperti ini, ya?
Pada hal dulu ketika saya sekolah, murid harus taat, hormat kepada guru dan orangtua karena baik orangtua maupun guru selalu menekankan karakter kepada kita, misalnya bagaimana berbicara sopan dengan orang yang lebih tua. Tetapi guru jaman dulu memang sih galak-galak, juga tegas dan kita segan banget sama mereka. Sekarang jaman sudah berbeda, suka atau tidak harus kita ikuti. Tidak lagi jamannya marah, ngomel sama siswa, tetapi tidak ada salahnya bila kita memberi semacam nasehat/ petuah ketika kita sambil mengajar.
Selain Orangtua,guru sangat berperan penting untuk membentuk karakter siswa/i di sekolah. Nah bagaimana caranya? Sangat sederhana menurut saya. Kita sebagai guru dapat memilih model pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan karakter yang akan kita tekankan, misalnya; kerja kelompok. Dalam model ini tentu karakter yang dapat terbentuk seperti bertanggung jawab, kerjasama, motivasi, percaya diri, menghargai orang lain,sopan, atau yang lainnya.
Nah, saudara-saudaraku yang berprofesi sebagai GURU, mari kita berbuat yang terbaik demi bangsa ini. Karakter Bangsa ini ada ditangan kita. BRAVO GURU, BRAVO INDONESIA!
